| The Wellness Institute
will offer innovative, evidence-based intervention and preventive
services, which promote long-term resiliency, self-leadership,
interdependency, and wellness; leading to the harmonious integration
of mind, body and spirit. Services and amenities include:
Family Talk – The Family Talk Preventive
Intervention is a strength-based family-centered program targeting
families in which one or both parents have depression. Children
of parents with mood disorders are two to four times more likely
to develop mood disorders themselves compared to children in
families with no parental illness.
One of the primary goals of the Family Talk prevention program
is to partner with families and work together to improve family
relationships and functioning.
MIPAC - The Mentally Ill Parent Assessment
and Coaching (MIPAC)
project is a proactive attempt to assess and treat parents who
have been diagnosed with a mental illness which challenges their
ability to safely and effectively parent their children.
MIPAC is designed to address specific deficits that may result
from having a specific mental illness. It is a culturally
sensitive approach that views mental illnesses in general as
treatable and worthy of implementing compensatory measures to
optimize parenting skills. MIPAC is also designed to assess
for any special needs that children of mentally ill parents may
have. The
primary focus is on providing an accurate diagnosis and tailoring
a proactive program to augment skills deficit.
Psychological Testing is a valuable clinical
service designed to assist in determining the appropriate level
of care for children and adults.
Holistic Assessments – The Holistic Adult
Mental Health Assessment takes a look at the whole person including
biological, psychological, social, spiritual, and cultural factors. It
is the most comprehensive assessment available for detection,
intervention and treatment of various behavioral health issues.
Violence Prevention – The Council is
the premier leader in the field of violence prevention and consultation. Our
communities continues to lose its most valuable assets, our children. We
have the clinical resources to implement strategies and create
partnerships that will help rid our community of its most deadly
challenge, Community Violence.
The Wellness Institute will also broaden The Council's Research, Advocacy and
Educational components. By bringing science into service, the community will
further benefit from The Council's evidence-based HIV-Prevention practices. The
Wellness Institute will expand Research to explore
the effects of race, culture and ethnicity on key health concerns. Working hand-in-hand
with Research, The Wellness Institute will also provide advocacy, training and
consultation, through the Institute for Managerial and Clinical Consultation
(IMACC).
